This past week my roommates and I have been going Harry Potter crazy in preparation for the release of the Half-Blood Prince and the party we decided to throw in its honor. We've been so busy that we've practically pulled all nighters 3 nights in a row. Sunday night I got 2 hours of sleep, Monday night I got 2 hours of sleep, and Tuesday I got 3! But don't worry... I got home from classes today and finally didn't have anything I had to do so I took a 5 hour nap and I'm feeling much better. I can actually form somewhat coherent sentences now. Anyway, now to Harry Potter...
So we've been planning this party since last semester and it was totally worth it. The only thing that was wrong with it was that we didn't get half the decorations done that we wanted to, so that part was kind of lame. But unfortunately school work takes some precedence over Harry Potter. Our food was amazing though, as were all of our costumes...not to mention our Harry Potter shirts that we made. We even got our FHE brothers to make them with us, despite not being huge HP fans. For food we had things like acid pops, dementor's kisses, bertie botts every flavor beans, pretzel wands, cauldron cakes, pumpkin pasties, floo powder, gillywater and butter beer. My pumpkin pasties were a huge hit so I was happy about that! We also had a pretty good turnout. Probably a total of 30-40 people stopped in, some only for a little while seeing as we're coming up on finals week. But some stayed the entire 3 hours. We pretty much just hung out. We had a game where we put HP characters on people's backs and then they had to figure out who they were by asking yes and no questions. It was actually a lot of fun. We also had the mirror of Irised so people could see what they desired most. We adorned the mirror with pics of Zac Efron (after seeing 17 Again everyone in our apartment is in love) as well as some other boys, seeing as that is what we desire most in our apartment. Here are some pictures from HP week...
Monday night making shirts with our FHE brothers
Laura, Chelsea, and Susan waiting patiently at the theater with their glow stick wands
Susan and I working on the pretzel wands
Some of the food we made
Us in our costumes...Left to Right...Jenn as Tonks, Chelsea as Professor Trelawney, Laura as Bellatrix, Susan as Ginny (she dyed her hair red for this), and me as Luna (I made radish earrings. If you look closely you can see them)
As for the movie... we went to the midnight showing... obviously. We left Rexburg for IF around 9:15, which was perfect timing because we got there just in time to get our tickets right before they seated our theater. We all got seats together which was lucky considering there was a group of 8 of us. The movie was so good! I have to say just a couple things about it but I'll try not to give anything away. First of all I just have to mention how funny this movie was, which was good cuz it lightened up the somewhat foreboding feeling that encompasses this movie. The guy that plays Slughorn was amazing, not to mention Bellatrix who is always delightfully disturbing. We got to see Ginny and Draco act it up a lot more and they're both pretty good. Especially Draco. He was amazing. The trio seemed to have stepped up on their acting abilities a lot as well. Hermione was not quite so over-the-top, Ron was extremely funny (but he's always been good) and Harry was actually pretty funny, especially when he takes his liquid luck. Ron and Lavender Browns relationship was perfectly annoying as well. Now for a couple disappointing things... the relationship between Harry and Ginny was kind of awkward and seemed to come out of no where, at least from Harry's side. I mean we all know that Ginny's liked Harry since day one. But all of a sudden Harry is madly in love with her and it's just like, "Where did this come from?" There's no easing in to it. There were also a couple huge events that took a big turn from the book. But I almost don't mind cuz they were really good for the movie. The other thing is that it leaves you feeling very unresolved. But I kind of expected that because even the book felt that way. It's pretty much just a precursor for number 7, and is meant to set up the story for that. I haven't read the 6th book in a long time, which I think was good because Laura was going through mentioning all the things they left out, but I couldn't remember any of them so I was okay with it. They'll probably just put them into film 7 since they're making it into 2 parts and can afford more detail. Basically I loved this movie. It might even be my favorite and I already want to see it again. Darn Evan having to quit the theater to go receive an education. Now what am I going to do? I guess that's all I have to say. Sorry for the long post but I get excited about movies, especially ones as awesome as this one!
